Rosie's | Sowebo | Old Town
I visited Baltimore last night with K to have dinner with Miss P and Big K, Rhy-Lee looked on with great sadness at the meal that he could not partake in, his big mug staring from the wood slats of the house length stairs. The entire house was built on land originally owned by James Stirling in the early 1800s, a native of Stirling, Scotland. This street is famous as being one of the first sites for its “dollar houses”, ‘70s program wherein the city sold vacant houses for $1 to those willing to rehab and live in them. The reason for our mini-celebration is my brother’s potential acquisition of a small character laden carry-out in Sowebo complete with a host of characters that would rival any John Waters movie, complete with a Hair raising Reuben sandwich, the single best I have ever had. That such a small kitchen could produce and item of such beauty is amazing. Leave it up to K to find this kind of life crammed into such a small box. But more on that later as that materializes and details hammered out. The area surrounding Stirling Street is an echo of civilizations past, a decaying strip mall straight from Escape from New York…hauntingly desperate alleyways and addicts. Here is an article about the area. http://citypaper.com/news/story.asp?id=4747
